Hypnotherapist Celeste HackettTOP Stupid Reason You Aren't Doing Age Regression Yet

by Celeste Hackett, BCH, A+CPHI, OB

Over the years, I have seen so many new 5-PATHERS® resisting moving into doing age regression work that I have begun to think that there could be an AR phobia. I wonder what it would be called? Regressaphobia maybe?

Honestly, I may have suffered a bit from it myself when I first started out. In fact, just about every 5-PATHER® does. So, don’t feel too bad if you are nervous. Maybe it will help you to know it ain’t like baseball with the whole “three strikes and you’re out” thing. After AR, clients simply come back for the next session feeling or doing better, worse or the same.

If they are better, you’ll feel relieved and good about yourself. If they are worse, you just say, “That happens sometimes” and then regress on the bad feeling that is left. If they are the same, then you feel “constipated”. Stuck. They do too, by the way. So, you again, regress on what is STILL there, unless you are sure it’s anger or guilt. In those cases, it’s on to FOO and FOS. See how easy this is?

But, what if you don’t know? Take an AR “laxative”. It gets things going again. Just use AR to uncover the remaining emotion or perceptions. Then, either do informed child (if it is a fear or a misconception that is evident) or FOO (if the AR shows it is anger at others that is still behind their problem) or FOS (if it is anger at the self or guilt).

I remember, when I first began learning 5-PATH®, how afraid I was of what might happen during age regression. Things like “they might not like me if I make them cry” or “I could do serious damage if they remember something horrible” were enough to make me hesitate going into the “real work that starts in the second session”. To add to my fear, I’d think, “and if they get mad at me, they know where I live!”. Yes, I worked and still do work out of a home office.

Keep in mind, this is my top reason. There certainly are many others. Lots of others. In fact, please feel free to add some of your own in the comments below, but to get the ball rolling, I’ll go first. Here it is:

My client needs to relax more first - New 5-PATHers (we need an abbreviation for them, how about N5’s?) usually, incorrectly, think that hypnosis is relaxation. So, hearing that somnambulism is a really deep state and needed for AR, they mistakenly think they must get clients to really, really relax.

Clients don’t need to be relaxed at all in order to be in somnambulism and/or to move to the work of Phase 2. Most of the time our clients are full of negative emotions that need to be dealt with via the latter phases of our work. Do you feel relaxed when you are angry? How about when you are afraid? What about when you haven’t had your caffeine, nicotine or chocolate fix? Of course not. So, move forward into the next phase where you can begin to help them to balance their emotions. JUST GET ON WITH IT.

By the way, many N5’s also think that clients need to STAY relaxed the entire session. I’ve seen so many N5’s worried because clients fidget or don’t look like they are “there”. It’s as if they don’t want clients to show any response to what is happening, but expect them to remain still as a rock.

Here is what you need to remember. A client can do anything in a deep hypnotic state that they can do when they are in a waking state. This means you’ll see them fidget, scratch itches, laugh, cry, talk or any number of things. More than once, while in somnambulism, my clients have even sat up, reached into their purses and turned off their ringing phones.

So, please stop worrying about getting your client to relax before you can do AR. If they passed the criteria for phase one, just move into AR. What is the criteria? Go grab your manual and look it up. It’s right there.

I will say that relaxation before, during and after age regression is good for the hypnotist, however. That’s right. Stop worrying so much and breathe. Being a hypnotist can actually be quite enjoyable if you will only calm down and just allow whatever happens to happen. Be there. Be a relaxed observer. Allow and Respond.

For sure, in this politically correct world we live in, someone will likely feel hurt by my using the word “stupid” in the title of this article. So, if you are offended I just want to say, it was just a catchy way to get your attention. That is all. Most people are wimps. They aren’t stupid. Uh oh. Did I just say wimps? Now I am really in trouble.
