Top Ten Reasons Hypnotists Fail In Their Hypnosis Practice
by Maureen Banyan, CH, OOB
I am constantly amazed when I hear from graduates complaining that they could not get their hypnosis practice going. We have been conducting Hypnosis certification trainings for over 19 years, and I have always spoken to the classes about getting your practice off the ground, how to answer the phone and get clients in the door, etc. It has been interesting for me to watch those who become successful and those who fail, they all had one thing in common, they were well trained in our Banyan Hypnosis Certification program in 5-PATH® and 7th Path Self-Hypnosis®.
Starting up your hypnosis practice and running your own business straight out of class can be daunting, challenging, and even frightening.
In all my talks to classes, I always say, “Follow our tips and suggestions on how to get your practice going and you will be off to a good start!” It is not easy, but, it is extremely rewarding once you get your practice off the ground and start seeing clients.
Some of you may think my article is dwelling on the negatives…for those who know me well, you will know that I will call a “Spade” a “Spade”, I am not one who will sugar-coat things.
I want to see and hear everyone’s success and felt the need to get these “top Ten Reasons Hypnotists Fail In Their Hypnosis Practice” out there. I know some of you may resonate with some of reasons I have listed below and they are holding you back. If you do, then discuss it on the 5-PATHers groups, or email me, I’d be happy to coach you.
Here are the top ten reasons hypnotists fail in their practice:
- Lack of self-confidence holding you back
- If you are lacking confidence, it is time to seek out an experienced 5-PATHer and get some sessions for yourself, you will also get first-hand experience as to what it feels like to be in the “chair”;
- Fear of telling clients that it’s an average of 5 sessions to work on their issues – (This is my PET PEEVE – I hear this all the time!)
- When you are afraid to tell clients that our 5-PATH® work is on average 5 sessions, then you need to work on your self-confidence.
- When you have confidence in yourself and your work, you will not hesitate to tell your clients that they would need a minimum of 5 sessions
- When you say you are conducting 5-PATH® hypnosis and only book 2-3 sessions, you are either not going to do 5-PATH with the client or you are going to wait till 2nd or 3rd session to tell them they need more sessions, clients will resent this as they will then feel they were lied to.
- Not sure what to do in sessions
- You need to be reviewing all your class manuals and notes, and watch the Loretta videos over and over again if you have them;
- Get connected to the 5-PATH discussion groups on Yahoo and OUrHypnospace.com so you can get questions answered by your fellow 5-PATHers;
- Be prepared for your Hypnosis sessions; remember, you are not a “Scriptnotist”, you must prepare for your sessions, you owe it to your client;
- Conducting sessions with friends and family
- This is the fastest way to fail and erode your confidence, friends and family know you too well and may not respect your new skills
- Offering free sessions
- Like Cal always says, “People only value what they put time, money or effort into, so if you offer free sessions, they are not going to take you seriously, you only hurt yourself.
- Trying to be the “nice” hypnotist
- Yes, 5-PATH hypnosis is in your face hypnosis and you must have guts to do this work effectively … so grow some “hypno-nads”!
- Attempting to be friends with clients
- This is an absolute “no-no” while they are coming in to see you
- Very important to keep clear boundaries
- Not being professional
- Are you projecting yourself as a Professional?
- Is your appearance professional?
- How about your office
- Fear of Spiritual Attachments or Spontaneous Past Life in Sessions
- Study up on this subject and be prepared
- Get the Spirit Releasement CDs http://www.hypnosiscenter.com/cds-srt-workshop.htm to learn more
- Spiritual Hygiene
- Keep up your daily 7th Path Self-Hypnosis practice
You all can do this! The positive benefits outweigh the negatives. Just don’t fall into any of the above traps. We are here for you and we want you to succeed! We’re here for you!
